Fighter Wing Briefing

In Character Briefing Video

This briefing will be given in game by the CAG, Major Derrison. Here’s a video of the briefing if you want to see it early. Below the video is a text summary.

Enemy attacks

Every time the fleet jumps, the Enemy attack 33 minutes later. The battleship Castor lays down a barrage of fire, creating a wall to block enemy fighters and missiles – but the Enemy fighters have jump drives, and can jump inside the firewall to attack. Enemy ships are generally fighter-sized controllers, each remote controlling up to four drones. The drones dont have jump drives, so the controllers have to jump inside the defensive fire and then launch them. There are two types of drone – fighters which are fast, agile and a match for the Castor’s defensive fighters, and anti-matter drones, which are intelligent missiles that will attempt to get to the Castor and explode. Drones continue even if their controller is destroyed, but they are much less intelligent without the controller.

Castor defenses

The Castor and the fleet are defended by two types of ship. The Arrrowhead fighters are fast, agile, defensive fighters – they are the best defence against the fighter drones, and able to take out controllers, making the drones easier to deal with.  The Nighthawks are juryrigged shuttles, which have a jump drive, and have been rigged with short-range missiles. Nighthawks are excellent at intercepting anti matter drones, as they can jump behind them and then fire – and can also rescue pilots who eject. They can also take out controllers with similar tactics, but risk being engaged by drones.

Tactics

“The Enemy have used the same tactics the last 100 jumps or so. They mass outside the killing zone. One of their controller ships jumps in, and immediately launches drones. These drones are semi-autonomous.. Yes, Jones, that means they have a machine brain – but they are better if a Controller ship is guiding them. The first Controller in will launch fighter drones. They always do.”

“Once you’re all busy, our worst nightmare will jump in. It just looks like any other controller, but this one will launch antimatter drones. These things are super fast, smart, and will run straight at the Castor. If they get close enough, they will blow the biggest hole you’ve ever seen in the Castor.”

“Keep the Castor alive for 5-7 minutes. Don’t lose your ship. Don’t die. Arrowheads, kill fighter drones and controllers if you can. Nighthawks, kill the antimatter drones, and rescue pilots who need it. Land when the Castor tells you to. There is no need to be a hero, heroes will die. And lose their ship”
